Castle Peak A&B Power Stations Reclamation and Jetty

Hong Kong, Castle Peak

Meinhardt joined forces with Capco, a joint venture of CLP Power and Exxon, to oversee the design and construction of embankments and dikes for Asia’s largest coal-fired power plant. This impressive facility boasts an installed capacity of more than 4,100 MW.

The power plant spans 62 hectares, with 35 hectares built using local fill material. The reclamation fill is up to 26 meters deep, creating some of the deepest walls in Hong Kong. These walls reach a total height of up to 45 meters from the foundation to the top.

The walls feature a core of naturally armored rubble, designed to withstand Hong Kong’s intense typhoon conditions, and are founded in waters about 22 meters deep. The site includes a coal unloading pier, initially designed by Meinhardt for ships up to 140,000 DWT. Meinhardt has since updated the pier to accommodate even larger coal ships, now up to 180,000 DWT.
